One more point
Girona can't find their best form, but they still have a point and remain unbeaten away from home
It's not always possible to win, but Girona keep on winning despite not being at their best. Today, Míchel Sánchez's men were thicker than on other days, and it was difficult for them to beat a brave Almería side in need of points. It was a tricky game despite their opponents' position in the standings, as they have improved their image in recent matches and have played more competitive games. Especially at home, where they had already drawn against Mallorca and Betis in the last two matches.
Almeria had the best chances in the first half, led by top scorer Sergio Arribas. The Madrid-born striker couldn't quite get his shot on target on the half-hour mark with everything in his side's favour, and Gazzaniga blocked his shot a few minutes later. Edgar also tried his luck with a powerful shot, but it was too high on the turn. Blind, with a soft shot at the hands of Maximiliano, and Juanpe from a set-piece, created the danger.
Míchel Sánchez's men made progress in the second half, but without creating any real chances on goal. Despite having more control of the match, the minutes passed without either team being able to threaten the opposition area, and in a counter-attack in the final stretch Girona were reduced to ten men when Aleix was sent off for being the last man. The Red and Whites held on with a player less, but it was difficult for them to find the victory against a home side that was in full swing.
Even so, we are still unbeaten away and it's time to think about next Wednesday's cup game at Montilivi against Rayo. Míchel's men have equalled last season's 49 points today, and if they beat Sevilla next Sunday they will surpass the best ever points tally in the Primera División with almost the entire second half of the season to play.
