Girona FC sign defender Alexander Callens

The center back, international for Perú, signs a contract for this season and two more

Central back Alexander Callens, 30 years old, will strengthen the defensive axis of Girona FC. The player, who has experience in the Spanish league, signs a contract for the rest of the season and two more. International for Perú, Callens will not occupy a non-EU position as he has Spanish nationality. In Girona, he will coincide with Taty Castellanos, with whom he shared the dressing room until last year at New York City FC and with Yangel Herrera, with whom he did it in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Formed in the lower categories of the Sport Boys in his country, at the age of 18 he made his debut in the First Division and a year later, in the summer of 2011, he made the leap to Europe to sign for Real Sociedad B. In Spain he has played four seasons with the Gipuzkoa team - he made his debut with the first team in a Cup tie - and two at Numància. In January 2017 he signed for New York City FC, where he has been for five seasons. During this time, he has totaled more than 160 games and has been nominated twice for the best defender of the year in MLS (2017 and 2021). With the North American team, he won the title of MLS Champion in 2021, the best team in the Eastern Conference and a Champions Cup.
