A hungry team

Girona win at the Sánchez Pizjuán and now have seven of the first twelve points.

Sevilla 0-2 Girona

Second consecutive win, and second consecutive clean sheet. As Míchel Sánchez has insisted since the start of the season, the team is hungry to continue growing and, with seven of the first twelve points, they are climbing up to the top of the table. Beyond the results, the ‘rojiblancos’ continue to transmit good sensations on the pitch and the team is starting to connect in order to enjoy a historic year.

Iván Martín opens the scoring

The Sánchez-Pizjuán is not an easy stage despite Sevilla's poor start to the league season. The Andalusians threatened in the first half mainly through the flanks, but Girona had their characteristic personality to make them strong on the ball. Míchel's side managed to open the scoring just before the break thanks to Iván Martín's close-range finish after a good team move. Gazzaniga had to intervene just after the break with a great save.

Abel Ruiz sentences from the penalty spot

Girona sealed the game midway through the second half from eleven yards. After the VAR warning, the referee awarded the penalty for handball, and Abel Ruiz calmly converted it, deceiving the goalkeeper. The striker also scored for the second consecutive match after the goal against Osasuna.

Bryan Gil: "The most important thing is to win by three"

The winger, who came up through the Nervión youth academy, placed special value on the victory because ‘it's a very difficult ground, where the fans cheer for the whole ninety minutes’. Regarding the team, he explained that ‘we were calm because we were working well, and I think that winning today is a step forward’.
