A good starting point

Girona kicked off the league with a draw at the Benito Villamarín in a game in which the team went from strength to strength.

Betis 1-1 Girona

Equality at the Benito Villamarín in a game with alternatives for both sides, but in which Girona were the protagonists and improved as the minutes went by. Míchel Sánchez's men conceded early on and Gazzaniga saved two very clear local chances with two meritorious hands, but the confidence in a recognisable style and the changes guided Girona towards a draw, and could even have done so to victory.

Gabriel Misehouy's first goal for Girona

In a game that Girona dominated, but lacked the skill to break down the home side's defensive organisation, the magic of the youngsters burst onto the scene and, shortly after entering the pitch, Iker Almena produced a fantastic move down the right and set up Misehouy for Misehouy to finish at his leisure. A few minutes later Misehouy had another chance from Miguel's cross in a second half in which Abel Ruiz hit the post and Stuani came very close to scoring his second from a long run inside the box. Bryan Gil, one of the most active men in the match, also tried his luck with a high shot.

Gazzaniga, salvador!

In the most difficult moments, Paulo Gazzaniga responded with two fantastic hands to keep the team alive. In the first he deflected Aitor Ruibal's close-range effort from close range late in the first half, and shortly after the restart he flew in to turn Rodri's well-placed shot behind for a corner. Chimy Ávila also crashed a shot into the crease just after Gabriel Misehouy's equaliser in a game with more of the ball for Girona, but options for both sides in the box.

"It's not bad to score in the first game of the season, but Girona are made to win and that's the idea we came here with"

Bryan Gil, one of the most active players during the match, has assessed the draw achieved once the game was over. The Andalusian winger praised the point after a difficult pre-season due to the fact that not everyone was able to work together very much, and described the game as a ‘great match’. ‘It was an open game in which we dominated more than them on a complicated pitch like the Benito Villamarín,’ he said, and on an individual level he acknowledged that he felt very comfortable with the idea of the coach and his teammates.
