The first team gets underway
Míchel Sánchez's men kicked off the 24/25 season today at the new Vilablareix training centre.
The first day of an exciting season
The first team is already up and running. Míchel Sánchez's men returned to training on Wednesday with their sights set on an exciting season and a major challenge, the Champions League opener. With five weeks to go before the league opener at the Benito Villamarín, the 'rojiblancos' are already working to be at their best and will make their debut next week in Olot.
The first day has allowed the players to get reacquainted after the holiday period, and the usual good atmosphere has reigned in the Girona squad. The first day was double, because the red and whites also got to know for the first time the new training centre in Vilablareix, where from now on the first team will carry out all their daily activities.
Double debut: back to work and first session in the new training centre
On their return to work, the squad was welcomed by president Delfí Geli and sporting director Quique Cárcel. Geli encouraged the squad to continue along the good line they have shown so far and referred to the opening of the new training centre as a step forward for Girona FC: "We have been trying to have our own facilities for a long time. You have helped us to grow and to get here, and this is thanks to the work of the last few years".
"Today is a very special day for the Club. We have been trying for a long time to get to where we are today", Delfí Geli.
Míchel Sánchez addressed the squad for the first time this season with an ambitious message. The coach has highlighted the good work done so far, and has marked the line to follow from the demand and the day to day: "Today is the first day of a season that could be historic, but the most important thing you have achieved in these three years is to be in an incredible working dynamic. We have to continue on this path, and I have no doubt that it will be a beautiful year.
"Last season was incredible, but we still have a lot of things to do and improve," Míchel Sánchez.
Gabriel Misehouy is now training with the group
All the available first team players were present at the training session, with the exception of the internationals with national team commitments this summer. Two of the new faces, Ladislav Krejci and Abel Ruiz, have not yet suited up for the European Championship and the Olympic Games, respectively. Gabriel Misehouy, the third signing confirmed for this season, has already had his first taste of the squad. Coming from Ajax, the young Dutch player already knows the coaching staff and teammates, and has been able to start to soak up the group's work dynamic.
