The first one is here
Girona gets the first three points in the Champions League in a historic night at Montilivi.
Girona 2-0 Slovan Bratislava
Girona's first victory in the Champions League is here! Míchel Sánchez's men have taken the first three points in a magical night at Montilivi with the fans. The team was far superior from start to finish and more than deserved the victory, living in the opponent's half and generating clear chances to score. A historic victory for being the first in the top European competition, and at the same time vital to continue with options to overcome the group stage. In fact, Girona provisionally climbs to twentieth position with five games left to play.
Miguel opens the scoring
The team took the field with drive to go after Bratislava from the start, and was the protagonist with the ball to subdue the visitors with good arrivals. As the minutes went by, they grew in the match, and despite suffering a new casualty with the forced substitution of Iván Martín due to injury, Danjuma was very dangerous on the left side. A cross that nobody could finish was the clearest warning of all the approaches to the area, and on the verge of the break, Danjuma himself overcame an opponent, won the back line, crossed back and Miguel entered from the second line to push the ball and unleash the euphoria of Montilivi.
Juanpe certifies the first victory in the Champions League with a great goal
The team continued in the same line in the restart and Danjuma was again left alone in front of the goalkeeper coming from behind, but his shot was deflected to a corner. Miovski had another chance for a second with a header that the visiting goalkeeper saved with a great hand, and on the day of his debut, Juanpe worked his magic to put the victory on track. The central defender took a direct free kick from the edge of the area and managed to score a deserved goal for his career at the Club, being the only player of the current squad who arrived at Girona when he had not even made his debut in the First Division, and who has lived through the two promotions. The negative note of the match is that Stuani was unable to take advantage of a penalty in favor in the last minutes to debut in the Champions League and round off the night. Even so, a victory of great merit and, even more so, being faithful to the philosophy that has led us to success.
