Comeback to stay in the lead

The team once again overcame an adverse result to win in Vallecas and continue to extend a dream start in the Primera División.

This Girona has no frees and today Míchel Sánchez's men have once again shown that they want to continue writing history. The white-and-reds have managed to impose themselves on a field and against a complicated rival, and they are going to the national teams stop feeling alone at the top of the First Division. They already have eleven wins and a draw in three games, and are on their way to 34 points in a dream start to the league. Apart from playing a lively and cheerful football, the team is also showing personality and the ability to react to overcome all the adverse situations and end up turning the balance on their side.

Today it was time to row against the run of play, as Álvaro García put the home side ahead at the start of the game. The gironins, who have specialised this season in scoring goals, continued to try to impose their football and the reaction came through a shot from Yangel Herrera that the defence deflected behind for a corner. The chances came and went in a game that was dominated by Girona but with the constant threat of a vertical and dangerous Rayo in attack.

Iván Martín, with a great personal action that was deflected by Dimitievski, and Miguel, who came within a millimetre of finishing Tsyangkov's cross, both had clear chances, and in the end it was the Ukrainian duo who levelled the score. Tsygankov got to the byline and crossed in for Dovbik, who did very well in the area to score his seventh goal of the season.

The ambition of both teams ensured that both sides had clear chances in the opening minutes without much control. Trejo had a shot at the crossbar and Gazzaniga saved another clear chance, but on the other side Dovbik also had the second and in the end it was Savinho who got it. The team was clinical in the penalty areas to get the best out of the most difficult part of the half, and could have even finished the game off with a Yangel Herrera strike, an Arnau header and a free-kick from Stuani.

Míchel Sánchez's men have shown once again today that Girona's great start is no coincidence, and they continue to dream and make us dream. After the national teams' away game, they will play Athletic Club at Montilivi on Monday 27th November at 9pm.
